CPR & AED

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is a lifesaving technique useful in many critical medical emergencies, including traumatic injury, heart attack or near drowning, in which someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped.

CPR can keep oxygenated blood flowing to the brain and other vital organs until more definitive medical treatment can restore a normal heart rhythm.

When the heart stops, the absence of oxygenated blood can cause irreparable brain damage in only a few minutes. Time is critical when treating an unconscious person who isn’t breathing. The actions taken by bystanders can greatly dictate the eventual outcome of the emergency.

Our program teaches lay-responders the principles of basic life support for adults, children, and infants. In accordance with the latest guidelines for CPR and emergency cardiac care, students learn how to assess the scene of an emergency, determine the victim’s condition and how to perform one-rescuer CPR.  The course also trains the students in the detection and early treatment of heart attack, how to manage choking emergencies, infection control precautions and legal considerations.

Nearly every two minutes, someone dies of sudden cardiac arrest. Automated External Defibrillation (AED) used in conjunction with CPR could save a quarter of these lives. AED devices are showing up everywhere from industrial settings to shopping malls, and the demand for training is rising.

The AED portion of the program teaches students how to use this simple lifesaving device. It also details key operating characteristics and shows you proper precautions and maintenance techniques. It explains how AEDs work and why they’re a critical part of emergency cardiac care.
