New York Safe Boating Course
Bravo Zulu offers the official New York Safe Boating Course — the in-person, state-approved course administered through the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation. Whether you’re getting behind the wheel of a powerboat for the first time or finally checking the box the law now requires, we’ll get you certified and confident on the water.
Do You Need This Course? (Brianna's Law)
Under Brianna’s Law, all operators of motorized vessels — including personal watercraft (PWCs) such as Jet Skis™ and Wave Runners™, and specialty craft — must complete a state-approved safe boating course.
Operators of non-motorized boats like kayaks and canoes are not required to take the course at this time, but it is strongly encouraged.
If you operate a motorized boat in New York, this certification is now the law.
Course Details
- Minimum age: Students must be at least 10 years old to attend.
- Format: A minimum of 8 hours of in-person classroom instruction.
- Certification: Upon successful completion, you’ll receive a temporary certificate valid for 90 days, until your permanent certificate arrives in the mail.
About Your Certificate
Your New York Safe Boating Certificate is good for life. Keep in mind that you must have the original, physical certificate on your person or on board whenever you operate a motorized boat — so hold on to it once it arrives.
