A disease which is caused by a bloodborne pathogen may be known as a bloodborne disease or illness. Because many bloodborne pathogens are extremely virulent and difficult to treat, it behooves anyone who may be potentially exposed to such agents to learn how to use appropriate precautions to protect themselves.
